Story:
Ananda Ram Murthy (Brahmanandam), an elderly man who has done little for his family, seeks solace in an old-age home. Meanwhile, Brahma (Raja Goutham), a self-absorbed aspiring actor, remains emotionally detached due to childhood trauma. Despite the unwavering support of his friend Giri (Vennela Kishore) and the love of his girlfriend Tara (Priya Vadlamani), he fails to recognise their sacrifices. A trip to a village with Murthy and Giri leads them on a transformative journey of self-discovery and rekindled connections.
Performances:
It was good to see Brahmanandam in a serious role and the legendary actor performed admirably. Raja Goutham was fine and showed the required impact in crucial scenes. Vennela Kishore provides the comic relief in many scenes. Priya Vadlamani, Aishwarya Holakkal, Rajeev Kanakala, Sampath Raj, Raghu Babu, Prabhakar, Divija Prabhakar, and Dayanand Reddy all were decent.
What worked for the film:
Brahma Anandam is a slow-burning slice-of-life drama that blends humour with introspection. Director RVS Nikhil presents a layered narrative that delves into familial bonds, unspoken regrets, and second chances. A few poignant moments between the grandfather and grandson work well. As said above, Vennela Kishore lifts the film with his comic timing. The scenes towards the climax were good, though not great.
What did not work for the film:
The meandering pace and tonal shifts if Brahma Anandam leave the audience with a sense of void, as if something is missing to make it a complete cinematic experience. For example, Brahma’s strained relationship with Tara and his artistic aspirations, remain underdeveloped, leaving certain emotional beats unresolved. Also, the director could have revealed what made Murthy lose his touch with his family atleast verbally.
Brahma Anandam Review and Verdict:
BrahmaAnandam has a solid premise, but it fails to connect because of subpar execution. While certain pivotal scenes and dialogues resonate well in the film, aided by commendable performances from Brahmanandam alongside Raja Goutham and Vennela Kishore, it ultimately falters with a sluggish pace and insufficient emotional impact.
