Story:
Pradeep(Pradeep Ranganathan) and Nikita(Ivana) are lovers who decide to take their relationship to the next level. They approach Nikita’s dad(Satyaraj) for the same. He puts a crazy condition and asks the couple to exchange their phones for a day and if they end up without any issues, he would say yes to their wedding. The couple okays the condition not knowing that this small step can change their life in a big way. What happens next in their lives is the whole story of the film.
Analysis:
The film is written, enacted and directed by Pradeep Ranganathan who impressed the audience with Comali movie with Jayam Ravi. This time not only as a director but he has also taken the job of acting with ease.
The story point is so relatable to the today's youth. The concept of having your wanna be life partner's phone for a day itself sounds interesting and the same time it is scary too. Pradeep has maintained the feel of entertainment along with the problematic situations this idea can create.
The first half is more on entertainment side and from the moment of phone exchange scene, the narration went on hilarous ride. The second half continues the same tempo for a while but it drops in the middle with few odd moments and the scenes at pre climax and climax where the couple realize the value of love and trust came good.
Performances:
Pradeep plays the main lead and he is amazing in his role. His role is like a representative of many young boys who are possesive about their girlfriend. Ivana is also stunning in her role and gets a meaty part. She was just terrific in the emotional scenes of the film.
Satyaraj is apt in the role of girls father. Radhika was natural in hero's mother role, Yogibabu excels in an important scene at pre climax.
Technical Elements:
Music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is good. The Background Score and the song before climax were superb. Dialogues worked for most of the parts. Camera work was neat.
Plus:
Contemporary concept
Lead pair
Hilarious moments
Pre climax and climax
Minus:
Dragged parts in second half
Few odd and exaggerated scenes
Final Note:
Love Today is a hilarious romantic entertainer. The film has excellent comedy in the first half and a proper emotional drama in the second half. The usage of social media apps and their side effects have been portrayed very well. Lead pair performance, contemporary concept and engaging narration make this film work except for few exaggerated moments and a few dragged parts.
