Story:

Brinda (Trisha) is a perceptive and insightful sub-inspector who is determined to uncover the truth behind a crime. As she delves into the mystery with her colleague Saarathi (Ravindra Vijay), she discovers that the situation is more complex than she initially thought and connected to her troubled history. Throughout her inquiry, she encounters Thakur (Anand Sami) and Anand (Indrajith Sukumaran), both of whom play pivotal roles in the unfolding events. The significant revelation and the impact of her past on the investigation are revealed throughout eight episodes.

Performances:

Trisha delivers both ease and intensity in her portrayal of Brinda. She fully embodies the character, allowing her performance to shine without being overshadowed by her celebrity status. Trisha skillfully captures the essence of her role, revealing her vulnerabilities, spontaneity, resilience, and courage with remarkable finesse. Ravindra Vijay's performance as Saarathi is another significant asset to the production. His depiction of a police officer grappling with the conflict between duty and ambition is commendable, and the creators have effectively developed Saarathi's character throughout the narrative. Indrajith Sukumaran, Jayaprakash, and Aamani provide reliable performances, while Rakendu Mouli enriches the storyline with his nuanced portrayal. Anand Sami leaves a lasting impression with his interpretation of Thakur, a character burdened by a traumatic history.

What worked for the series:

The core idea behind Brinda separates it from other crime thrillers. It is not your typical cop and criminal investigative drama. The series delves into deeper themes such as superstition and religion and their impact on the modern world. Furthermore, the show is praised for its realistic locations and authenticity. Brinda is mainly shot in the Secunderabad suburbs, providing a welcome departure from the portrayal of Hyderabad in some recent movies and web series. The backstories of both Trisha and the killer are dealt with very well. The belief and ideology behind the Killer's murders are placed well, as it looks like a silly thing to the outsider. Still, the director cleverly built the emotional graph behind the Killer's actions. Also, the relationship between Sarathi and Brinda was shown very well.

What did not work for the series:

The initially smooth and fast-paced writing gradually becomes somewhat overused during the final moments. The sixth episode, which shows the killer's past, could have been dealt with a lot more engagingly. Also, once the killer's identity is revealed, the sense of intensity or excitement gets weakened.

Brinda Review and Verdict:

Brinda is a properly constructed web series that distinguishes itself from other recent releases. This captivating crime thriller captivates viewers with its exciting narrative, featuring solid performances from Trisha, Anand Sami, Indrajit, and Ravindra Vijay. Surya Manoj Vangala skillfully handled the series. If not for the occasional bumps and slow-paced appeal here and there, this crime thriller is an engaging one.
