Movie is set in the 80's with mysterious incidents taking place at
fictional town Kamarattu and how this is solved by the protagonist forms
up the core plot. First half is all about introducing characters and events in the
Kamarattu town. Sudeep's introduction scene is whistle worthy. Overall
first half is decent with a good interval bang.
Post interval movie goes on a brisk pace for few minutes to unfold the
mysteries but falls flat post RaRaRakkamma song, which was shot well and
looked grand on screen. On the flip side the pre climax and climax scenes
were very well handled.
Movie has its moments in both the half’s. Had a shift from genres time to
time but Director Anup Bhandari has handled well. But the movie takes its
time to settle. Team could have sticked to the mystery thriller genre,
which would have been much more effective rather than packing it up with
horror filler scenes.
Vikrant Rona is a tailor-made role for Sudeep, his performance was
fantastic as a police officer, Nirup Bhandari, Neetha Ashok and other cast
were adequate for their roles.
Technically movie is brilliant. Cinematography by William David was top notch and background score from Ajaneesh is pretty good.
Production values are rich, set designs are lavish and eye catchy.
On a final note, Vikrant Rona works out well keeping aside few
drawbacks. Anup Bhandari succeeded in making a multi genre movie but
could have focused more on the screenplay. It might reach the
expectations for few but can be appreciated for the attempt by the
team.
