Returning to direction after seven long years, Sooraj Barjatya teams up with Amitabh Bachchan, the trailer was loved by everyone and now let's see the film lived up to the expectations or not.
Story:
Three best friends in their 70s — celebrated author Amit (Amitabh Bachchan), Javed (Boman Irani) and Om (Anupam Kher) — decide to embark on a trek to the Everest Base Camp to fulfil the wish of their late friend Bhupen (Danny Dengzongpa), whose heart belonged to the Himalayas.
Analysis:
The flashback portion had its heart at the right place, with the bond between the friends working very well. Soon after a tragic turn, the narration goes ahead to the journey of Everest.
There are so many beautiful moments in the journey with all the characters having their problems to face and sort out, also it elaborates on so many things like friendship, companionship, the parent children understanding issues.
Being single in old-age is not that easy, even after three decades of marriage couple fail to give the required space and each other and cannot enjoy their preferences or tastes. All these threads are dealt with simple yet effective touch. Moreover, not every time the children are wrong and parents are right was also explained beautifully by Amitabh Bachchan in a clear and right manner in a scene.
Though some moments in that flow look shaky, the movie manages to get back time and again with simple fun and emotional parts doing their job well and ends effectively.
Performances:
There are all the legendary actors in this movie, starting with Amitabh Bachchan who does the job with ease. He brings the chirp and emotional core of the movie many times, and it is so lovely to watch him do what he does at his age.
Anupam Kher gets the most comical parts with a few typical lecturing uncle role which he does so naturally. Boman Irani was also competent and showed his brilliance. Danny Denzogpa was terrific until he lasted.
Neena Gupta puts herself with sheer dominance whenever she's on-screen. Sarika was just fantastic. Parineeti Chopra in an extended cameo does a pretty decent job.
Amit Trivedi has given wonderful music. The best one being Keti Ko, a celebration song which was so good to watch on screen. Zindagi Ko Haa Kar de also keep ups on momentum and the background score gets very interesting in the second half.
Final Note:
Uunchai is a film made of beautiful moments, great performances and soulful music. It is definitely worth a watch, if not for a bit of extra runtime.
