Darling - The Mad Maxx Entertainer Movie Review

Movie: Darling

Cast:  Priyadarshi, Nabha Natesh, Brahmanandam, Vishnu, Ananya Nagalla and others.
Director: Ashwim Ram
Produced By: K Niranjan Reddy, SMT Chaitanya

Story:

Raghava, portrayed by Priyadarshi, is employed as a travel agent with a singular goal of marrying a woman and taking her to Paris for their honeymoon. His father, played by Muralidhar Goud, sets up a match with Doctor Nandini, played by Ananya Nagalla. However, Nandini runs away with her boyfriend right before the wedding, prompting Raghava to contemplate suicide. During this time, he encounters the carefree Aanandhi, portrayed by Nabha Natesh. Eventually, they tie the knot, only for Raghava to discover that his wife has a dissociative identity disorder, causing trouble in their relationship. The film revolves around how Raghava navigates the challenges in his marriage.

Performances:

Priyadarshi is usual, and he performs his role admirably; the weak writing of his character hinders him from fully utilizing his potential. On the other hand, Nabha Natesh plays a crucial role in the film, demanding a wide range of emotions. Unfortunately, though she did well for a while, she struggles to continue the same impact. Vishnu Oi and D Krishna Teja could not provide many laughs, while Muralidhar Goud and Raghu Babu were satisfactory. Brahmanandam's talent is underutilized, as he is present for only a few scenes. Ananya Nagalla delivers a decent performance in her extended cameo appearance.

What worked for the film:

Director Aswin Ram had a unique concept in mind. He aimed to blend his concept with captivating and amusing comedy sequences. He successfully handled a few hilarious episodes and the last fifteen minutes, which provided a bit of emotional impact. Though not great, the music fits the film's flow, and the background is also good.

What did not work for the film:

The characters and comedic moments must be carefully crafted to captivate the audience and provide entertainment for such a crazy and unique storyline of Darling. Regrettably, Aswin fell short of achieving this goal. His writing lacked depth, and his characterizations could have been better. As the movie progresses, viewers lose interest and become annoyed with the unfolding events, particularly in the second half. The lack of a strong bond between the main characters meant the audience couldn't invest in their journey or connection.

Darling Review and Verdict:

Darling had the potential to be a mad entertainer, but a disorganized narrative weakens its impact. The unique storyline suffered from an ineffective director's presentation. Priyadarshi and Nabha Natesh shined in their roles, backed by pleasant music.
