Story:
Bajirao Singham, (portrayed by Ajay Devgn) the fearless cop is now posted in Kashmir, where he leads the forces to prevent terrorists from infiltrating the borders and to protect young individuals from radicalization. He is also the head of a special task force named Shiva Squad. During this operation, he confronts Omar Hafeez, a former adversary (played by Jackie Shroff), whom he apprehends, only to encounter a new antagonist, Danger Lanka (Arjun Kapoor). Danger Lanka abducts Avni (Kareena Kapoor Khan), which results in Singham bringing the members of his squad to save his wife and hunt down Lanka.
Performances:
Ajay Devgn was at his usual best as Bajirao Singham. He delivered the much-needed punch dialogues in his style. Arjun Kapoor was good in the menacing role. Kareena Kapoor Khan was fine, while Deepika Padukone had one grand introduction and got sidelined after that. Tiger Shroff got two stunts to his name while Akshay Kumar also enthralled with his entry at the climax fight. Ranveer Singh provides some good laughs in the second half and his character was a relief amidst all the big action episodes in the film.
What worked for the film:
One who watched the trailer of the film could easily guess the proceedings of Singham Again. Director Rohit Shetty does not produce anything new but he was able to make it an engaging ride. The initial sequence of Singham and his interaction with Omar Hafeez came good for the film. The action sequence at the Tiger Shroff's house was also good. The second half of the film has all the major stunts and chases and they all provide the much-required high.
What did not work for the film:
After a good introduction of the lead character, the film progresses on a dull note for a while in the first half. The kidnap episode of Avni could have been much better and one can feel the required intensity is missing in that episode. Likewise the previous films of Rohit Shetty's cop universe, the dialogues about national pride look a bit ordinary. Also, after so much buildup for Danger Lanka, the fight between him and Singham falls short of the expectations.
Singham Again Review and Verdict:
Singham Again is an ideal action entertainer. The narrative is easy to expect, as it was already revealed in the trailer. The first half has some dull moments, the second half shines with its thrilling action sequences and chases. Ajay Devgn is impressive in the title role, like always, while Arjun Kapoor is good as the antagonist. Out of all the cameos, Ranveer Singh and Akshay Kumar stand out with the former taking care of fun while the latter enthralling in two crucial stunts.
