Story:

Set in a small village located in the foothills near Vizianagaram, the people of Konda Kinda Ooru are barely acknowledged by the outside world. Determined to bring recognition to his village, Appalasoori (Jagapathi Babu) has been fighting for over three decades to get a railway stop sanctioned there, believing it would transform the lives of the villagers.

Meanwhile, Peddi (Ram Charan) and several others travel from the village to Vizianagaram for work and survival. Peddi works in a jaggery factory and is also a talented cricketer. His cricketing skills make him a sought-after player in local tournaments, where villages bid for him to represent their teams.

Peddi falls in love at first sight with Acchiyamma (Janhvi Kapoor), the daughter of a local political leader. However, this love story soon brings unexpected challenges into his life. What obstacles does Peddi face because of this relationship? Why does his journey take him all the way from his remote village to Delhi? Does Appalasoori's long-standing dream finally come true? The answers form the heart of the story.

Performances:

Ram Charan completely immerses himself in the role of Peddi and delivers a natural, powerful performance that serves as the backbone of the film. Janhvi Kapoor's character is largely limited to a glamorous presence. Shivrajkumar adds weight and dignity to his role, while Jagapathi Babu shines as Appalasoori, bringing tremendous emotional depth to the character. Divyendu, Boman Irani, and the supporting cast perform adequately.

What Works:

On paper, Peddi's storyline may seem quite simple. However, director Buchi Babu elevates it through effective storytelling and engaging narration. The first half establishes the world and characters well while blending commercial elements smoothly into the narrative.

The film gets going with the nighttime cricket match and the emotionally charged Appalasoori episode. The transition of Peddi from cricket to wrestling is handled effectively, and the wrestling sequences are packed with drama and impactful elevations.

The Delhi episode introduces some surprising twists, followed by a shocking sequence that leaves a strong impact. The emotional scene that follows the climax speech is also executed beautifully and resonates well with the audience.

What Doesn't Work:

While Buchi Babu convincingly explains Peddi's shift from cricket to wrestling, the transition from wrestling to athletics does not feel as natural or convincing. Although the major twist after the Delhi episode is excellent, the drama that follows could have been developed with greater intensity.

The influence of characters like Appalasoori and Gournayudu on Peddi's journey is significant and well-established. However, supporting characters such as Rambujji and Ammathalli deserved stronger characterization to leave a similar impact. Additionally, portions of the Peddi-Acchiyamma love track in the first half feel somewhat outdated and over-the-top.

Peddi Review And Verdict:

Peddi is a sincere sports drama with powerful emotions at its core. Buchi Babu keeps the narrative grounded and engaging, especially from the pre-interval stretch to the climax. Despite a few screenplay shortcomings and some underdeveloped supporting characters, the film succeeds because of its emotional strength, compelling performances, and impactful storytelling. It delivers a satisfying and engaging cinematic experience.
