Story:
Naveen and Vennila marry at a registrar's office, facing family curses for their decision. Post-marriage, Naveen and Vennila live with his parents, who still disapprove of her. Naveen enjoys life, but his impulsive nature gets him fired, causing financial troubles. He carries a Rs 3 lakh debt. His brother-in-law, Rajendran (Guru Somasundaram), constantly belittles him. The story follows Naveen as he overcomes struggles and rediscovers himself.
Performances:
As always, Manikandan's performance shines. His expression of love for his wife and his emotional outburst before the climax are excellent. He convincingly performs in comedy scenes. Guru Somasundram adds excitement with his odd antics. Saanve Megghana shines as Vennila. She gave an amazing performance. R Sundarrajan, Kudassanad Kanakam, and Nivethitha Rajappan excel in their roles.
What worked for the film:
Director Rajeshwar Kalisamy's Kudumbasthan blends humor with everyday issues. Kudumbasthan offers plenty of laughs and thought-provoking moments. The movie brings attention to important family issues. It addresses financial woes and unhappy relationships with humor while delivering emotional weight in crucial scenes.
The scenes where Naveen hides his unemployment and his drunken friends keep suggesting flop ideas to him came correctly. These situations emphasize a working man's difficulties as the sole earner, infused with comedy. Naveen's struggles with his demanding parents and pregnant wife, along with his fleeting happiness before facing new challenges, make him relatable.
What did not work for the film:
Naveen's parents often mock Vennila for minor issues, which isn't always amusing. During the climax, Vennila inquires about her mother-in-law's behavior, yet it needs better handling. Naveen's problems often drag on and seem repetitive at times. Such repetition brings about boredom in the second half.
Kudumbasthan Review and Verdict:
Kudumbasthan is a feel-good movie that’s full of laughs and positive vibes. It offers an entertaining take on family and financial issues. There are some stretched parts in the latter half, along with some underwhelming moments. Still, the film gets back on track and ends on a satisfying note.
