Story:

Irumudi is set in Polluru village, located near the forest region of Alluri Sitharama Raju district. Trinath (Ravi Teja) lives there with his wife Kaveri (Priya Bhavani Shankar) and daughter Manikanta (Baby Nakshatra). His daughter means the world to him, and he has a unique affection towards young girls, seeing his own daughter in every girl he comes across.

Trinath is also heavily addicted to alcohol. However, during Karthika Masam, he wears the Ayyappa mala and strictly follows the 41-day deeksha. Once the period ends, he returns to his drinking habit. Kaveri constantly tries to make him give up alcohol.

Meanwhile, a schoolgirl in the village dies by suicide. What is the danger lurking around the schoolgirls? What happens to Trinath and Manikanta as they become connected to the issue? The rest of the story revolves around these questions.

Performances:

Ravi Teja is the biggest strength of Irumudi. Moving away from his usual mass roles, the actor slips effortlessly into the role of an ordinary middle-class father. His affection for his daughter feels natural, and his performance becomes particularly effective in the emotional sequences.

Baby Nakshatra also delivers an impressive performance and shares a convincing rapport with Ravi Teja. Priya Bhavani Shankar, Swasika and Sai Kumar make their presence felt in their respective roles, while the actors portraying the schoolgirls also perform well.

What Works:

The basic storyline chosen by Shiva Nirvana may not be entirely new, but it is presented with an interesting emotional core. The first half does not unnecessarily stretch the proceedings and instead focuses on Trinath and his relationship with his daughter. Their scenes together are among the film's best moments.

The interval sequence is relatively simple but works because of its emotional impact.

The second half has a few effective stretches, particularly the deeksha episode, the “Mallepoola Pallaki” song and the chase sequence. The emotional payoff in the climax is also handled well and provides the film with its strongest moments.

What Doesn't Work:

The film has several negative characters, but their characterizations could have been stronger and more convincing. Shiva Nirvana manages to build decent tension during the pre-climax while keeping the actual truth under wraps. However, when the revelation finally arrives, the film takes a relatively predictable route.

A few scenes, despite having relevance to the story, can also feel disturbing and unsettling. These portions may not work equally well for all audiences.

Irumudi Review And Verdict:

Irumudi is a well-intentioned and emotional drama that works primarily because of its central father-daughter relationship and Ravi Teja's sincere performance. The film maintains a decent feel across both halves, with several engaging moments alongside a few dull stretches.

The emotions gradually gain strength as the film approaches the climax, and the final act delivers its biggest impact. While the writing could have been sharper in certain areas, Irumudi succeeds in creating an emotional connection with its core theme.
