Story:

Set in Vizag, Arjun Vishwanath (Kalyan Ram) is the son of a principled IPS officer, Vyjayanthi (Vijayashanti), who hopes her son will follow in her footsteps. Just when things seem to be going smoothly, an unforeseen event drives a wedge between them. Vyjayanthi distances herself from Arjun, who then becomes a criminal dedicated to protecting the people of Vizag. Enters Pathan (Sohail Khan), a man bent on avenging himself against Vyjayanthi. Who is Pathaan? What motivates him to kill Vyjayanthi? Why does Vyjayanthi distance herself from her son? What leads Arjun to a life of crime? Will mother and son find their way back to each other? The film reveals the answers to these intriguing questions.

Performances:

Nandamuri Kalyan Ram and veteran actor Vijayashanthi play the lead roles in Arjun S/o Vyayanthi. They both do not have strong characterizations that could make them excel, and they perform well in some crucial scenes. Sohail Khan is ineffective as the main villain. Srikanth does his part well, while Babloo Prithviraj, Anand, and others are alright. Saiee Manjrekar gets a forgettable role.

What worked for the film:

The opening scene, showcasing Vijayashanthi in a police uniform along with an exciting action sequence, establishes a positive atmosphere and boosts expectations for the film. There are a few crucial dialogues/scenes that work in the first half and near the climax.

What did not work for the film:

The film adheres to a familiar formula that has been prevalent in commercial cinema for many years. The old storyline required a new perspective or at least some surprising moments for the audience. Unfortunately, this rarely occurs, except for a brief segment near the film's conclusion that was heavily promoted. While the hero does something unexpected, it doesn't qualify as shocking, and the prolonged buildup to that moment diminishes its impact. The biggest minus point for the film is that there is not a single scene that stands out between the mother and son. The narration also fails to properly handle the heroism scenes as they come across as merely passable, missing the required high entirely.

Also, Saiee Manjrekar's character feels shallow and doesn't contribute much to the story. Her role could have benefited from more development. The songs and background score are just okay and fail to leave a lasting impression.

Arjun Son of Vyjayanthi Review and Verdict:

Pradeep Chilukuri's Arjun Son Of Vyjayanthi is an old-fashioned action drama. The movie progresses predictably from the beginning to the climax, with only a handful of significant parts. The climax of the film has a shocking point, but it is not as effective as the makers said.
