Story:
The story of Constable Kanakam centers on a lady constable discovering the alarming disappearances of girls. Kanakam (Varsha Bollamma) starts her role as Constable in Repalle village, Srikakulam district. Soon, she realizes the unsettling pattern of young girls going missing.
While investigating her missing friend Chandrika, Constable Kanakam stumbles upon some shocking revelations and manages to deal with all the wild developments that come next.
Performances:
Varsha Bollamma did a great job in that part. She delivered powerful expressions and pushed the narration ahead. Varsha Bollamma received support from Rajeev Kanakala, Ramana Bhargav, and Prem Sagar's performances. Avasarala Srinivas does not have scope for performance except for the final episode. Jwala Koti, Rakendu Mouli, Megha Lekha, and Kishore Kumar really brought their characters to life.
What worked for the series:
If we look at the basic plot, Constable Kanakam might not look that great. But the director, Prasanth Kumar Dimmala, tries a genuine approach to the crime thriller plot and does not try to put twists for the sake of it.
The intrigue around the missing girls in the town is well established, along with the struggles of Kanakam, who fights with the chauvinistic behavior of her colleagues, superiors, and even villagers.
The backstory of the killer is displayed through different chapters in his life, which is interesting. The emotional impact before the last episode, where the titular character gets an elevation, is also good. Suresh Bobbili's background music added value to the scenes, along with suitable visuals.
What did not work for the series:
Despite some intriguing and spine-chilling moments, Constable Kanakam misses the required excitement in the proceedings. The way the lead character investigates the killer should have been more exciting. Also after the final twist is out, the prolonged backstory of the villain is dragged.
Constable Kankam Review and Verdict:
Director Prasanth Dimmala's Constable Kanakam is a sincere and rooted crime thriller. Even though the plot is not very intricate or thrilling, the narration hooks you in, boosted by natural acting and cohesive visuals along with a fitting score.
