Steven Shankar (Kiran Abbavaram), an orphan from Nellore, moves to Chennai with a dream of becoming a film director. Nivedita, aka Nivi (Sri Gouri Priya), is left heartbroken after her wedding is called off following a three-year relationship.
Unable to cope with the heartbreak, Nivi turns to alcohol while living with her friends in Chennai. Through a chance encounter, Steven becomes acquainted with the group and eventually starts staying in the same apartment. Though Nivi initially dislikes him and even lashes out at him, the two gradually grow closer and fall in love.
Just when life seems to be falling into place, an unexpected twist changes everything. The rest of the film follows Steven and Nivi as they struggle to come to terms with their new reality.
Performances:
Kiran Abbavaram is well-suited for the role of Steven Shankar and delivers a restrained, sincere performance without going overboard. Sri Gouri Priya shines as Nivi, carrying the emotional weight of the film with confidence and excelling in the intense emotional moments.
Trigun, Siri Hanumanthu, Mahender, Naveen Neni, Naresh, Pooja, Devi Prasad, and Pramodini perform their respective roles effectively. Senior directors P. Vasu and Karuna Kumar make brief cameo appearances.
What Works:
The first half keeps the audience engaged with its breezy narrative and the charming chemistry between the lead pair. Several moments and dialogues feel relatable, making the romance easy to connect with.
Mani Sharma's background score, especially the "Jigithara" song, beautifully enhances the love story. The interval sequence lands effectively, while the graveyard episode at the beginning of the second half is another emotional high point.
What Doesn't Work:
The film takes a dramatic emotional turn in the second half by introducing a fantasy element, but the transition feels unconvincing. Even if one accepts the director's narrative, the portions involving Nivi's ex-boyfriend and Steven's jealousy and possessiveness feel out of place. The attempt to generate humour through these scenes doesn't work.
The climax aims for an emotional payoff, but the events unfold predictably. The ending feels forced and ultimately weakens the female lead's character, reducing the impact of the film's emotional core.

Ravi Namburi's Chennai Love Story is an ambitious romantic drama that attempts to tell a love story with a fresh emotional perspective. While the engaging first half, convincing lead performances, and a few impactful moments keep the film afloat, the emotionally inconsistent second half and a forced climax prevent it from delivering the intended impact. Overall, it ends up as a below-par romantic drama that falls short of its potential.
