Story:
The narrative of Amaran (based on the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan, portrayed by Siva Karthikeyan) is presented from the perspective of his wife, Indhu Rebecca Vargheese, portrayed by Sai Pallavi. The film illustrates the journey of Indhu as she encounters Mukund in her collage, develops a romantic relationship, and ultimately marries him against her parents' wishes, who do not want their daughter to wed an army officer. Additionally, it depicts Mukund's ascent through the ranks of the Indian army, culminating in his heroic demise while combating formidable terrorists in Kashmir
Performances:
Siva Karthikeyan and Sai Pallavi induce life into the characters of Mukund and Indhu with their heartfelt and excellent performances. All the scenes between both of them are a treat to watch and add the required emotional touch to the film. Rahul Bose, Bhuvan Arora, and others were okay.
What worked for the film:
Director Rajkumar Periasamy commences the film with a touching introduction featuring Sai Pallavi, who narrates the story through a non-linear structure that incorporates multiple flashbacks highlighting the courage of the valiant soldier. The film effectively portrays the emotional struggles faced by the families of the Indian army. As said above, the scenes between Sai Pallavi and Siva Karthikeyan have a strong effect as their journey is shown through the various phases of their lives. Especially, the condition of an armywoman who cannot be sure of her husband's safety is shown brilliantly in the second half of the film. The climax of the film is an expected one as it is a biopic, but still, the episode is truly heartwarming. GV Prakash's background score is one of the major plus points of the film.
What did not work for the film:
Because the film is based on a soldier's life, certain elements and scenes come across as familiar, and one can feel/predict all the proceedings related to his love for the nation and Indian army. The army vs. terrorists track also runs on a regular note.
Amaran Review and Verdict:
Director Rajkumar Periasamy presents a well-made tribute to Major Mukund Varadarajan. Both Siva Karthikeyan and Sai Pallavi gave stellar performances! The love scenes effectively enhanced the overall impact. While some military scenes proved successful, others did not work smoothly. Nonetheless, the climax delivers a remarkable, poignant connection.
