Do Patti Poster

Movie: Do Patti
Rating: 2.25/5
Cast: Kajol, Kriti Sanon, Saheer Sheikh, Tanvi Azmi, Brijendra Kala and Others
Director: Shashanka Chaturvedi
Produced By:  Kathha Pictures, Blue Butterfly Films, Vipin Agnihotri Films

Story:

Saumya and Shailee are twin sisters (both played by Kriti Sanon) who lost their mother in childhood and do not get along with each other as they grow up. Shailee develops hatred for Saumya, and she is moved to the hostel. The film opens with Saumya filing a police complaint that her husband, Dhruv Sood (Shaheer Sheikh), tried to kill her, and the rest of the story is narrated in a series flashback. VJ, aka Vidya Jyothi (Kajol), is a local police officer who tries to get into each and every detail of the case.

Performances:

Kriti Sanon tried her best to showcase the variation in double role, and she could take some ordinary moments to the next level. Kajol and Shaheer Shaikh were decent, while Tanvi Azmi and Brijendra Kala were okay.

What worked for the film:

The initial episode of the film and a few scenes between the sisters, Shailee and Saumya, work well for the film. Though not unpredictable, the final revelation by Shailee at the court had some sort of effect. Also, a few dialogs at crucial moments were good.

What did not work for the film:

Do Patti suffers with weak and clueless writing at many places. For example, one never understands why Shailee behaves in such a harsh way with Saumya even after so many years and why she suddenly starts caring for her sister. Also, the revelation of Dhruv's rage is presented without any proper setup, and his decision to change his life partner seems very silly and convenient. The courtroom sequence in the latter half was utterly predictable, and it never occurs as striking as it should have been. Kajol's character gets a good buildup at the initial stage, but it does not continue as the film progresses, and it ends up as a mere spectator to the actions of the lead characters. The use of the term "aurat" (woman) as a derogatory remark by various male characters in the film, including Dhruv, his father, his lawyer, and another important character, appears to be a deliberate effort to define their personalities.

Do Patti Review and Verdict:

Do Patti had the potential to be an exhilarating thriller, but it ultimately falls short of captivating the audience, with only a few notable moments. The narrative does not elevate itself beyond the ordinary level, nor does it sustain the necessary impact. Kriti Sanon delivered a commendable performance, while Kajol and Shaheer Sheikh were satisfactory in their roles.
