Story:
Newly married couple Vicky (Rajkummar Rao) and Vidya (Triptii Dimri) choose to document their honeymoon experience for their own enjoyment and satisfaction. However, tension arises when the CD containing their recorded moments is stolen. The rest of the story is about how Vicky and Vidya discover who stole their CD and what chaotic incidents or situations they encounter to find it.
Performances:
Rajkummar Rao and Tripti Dimri were good as the lead pair, and their performance was also perfect, but one wishes the latter could have had more say in the proceedings. Vijay Raaz makes a strong impact with his one-liners, while Mallika Sherawat was useful. Tiku Talsania provided many hilarious moments. Rakesh Bedi, Archana Puran Singh, Mukesh Tiwari, and others were apt.
What worked for the film:
In the late 1990s, before the advent of Instagram, the concept of privacy held a distinct significance. The absence of platforms for sharing personal lives meant that couples voluntarily documenting their intimate experiences was uncommon. Consequently, the film's screenplay appears promising and maintains its potential until the midpoint. Vijay Raaz's character and interactions with the other characters work very well. The fun and love track between Mallika Sherawat and Vijay Raaz also works well. The director's idea to add the emotional message to the fun theme was also good, though it should have been presented more effectively. The music in the first half is also one of the film's plus points.
What did not work for the film:
After a promising start and entertaining first half, the film tends to dip in the second half, which also starts on a good note. The focus of the narration abruptly transitions into a mode of activism before ultimately embracing elements of horror comedy (this episode and the attempt to give homage to Stree did not work at all). As said above, the idea of the director, Raaj Shaandilya, to emphasize the painful experiences of video scandal/leak victims was truly appreciable, but he should have incorporated the necessary lead scenes to such an important episode rather than repeating the jokes.
Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video Review and Verdict:
Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video benefits from back-to-back hilarious scenes in the first half, and the second half presents more funny situations. However, the stretched parts and mix of horror comedy do not fit in the narration, and it takes on a preachy tone near the climax
