Story:

Lakshman Bheri is a sincere and dedicated officer in the railway police. He never allows illegal activities in his area. Meanwhile, Shivudu runs a massive drug operation in Adavi Varam. The story follows how Lakshman sets out to destroy this drug empire and the challenges he faces along the way.

Performances:

Ravi Teja stays true to his trademark style, bringing energy to the scenes, songs, dances, and fights. A few moments remind us of his old charm, but overall, he doesn’t get much scope to do more.

Sreeleela plays a village girl, but she struggles with her accent and body language, making her character feel a bit awkward. Naveen Chandra shines as Shivudu, the main villain, adding style and attitude to his role. Though the character is somewhat routine, Naveen’s performance makes it work. Rajendra Prasad gets a decent amount of screen time, but his character lacks depth. Naresh, Samuthirakani, and Murali Sharma have small, forgettable roles, while Ajay Ghosh and Hyper Aadi bring a few light moments.

What Works:

Director Bhanu Bhogavarapu chooses a familiar mass theme for his debut film. The opening scenes, hero introduction, and setup are handled well, giving the impression of a strong mass entertainer. The intense hero-villain face-offs in the first half work nicely, and the interval action scene builds some excitement. In the second half, the forest fight is decent but not great, while the dinner scene at the villain’s house stands out.

What doesn't work:

The director tries to mix comedy into almost every part of the film, which hurts the flow of what could have been a solid action drama. The comedy in the first half mostly falls flat, with only a few funny dialogues. The second half doesn’t improve much, continuing with unnecessary and outdated humor. The songs in the film are weak, and the comedy scenes feel repetitive and old-fashioned, like the heroine trying to trick the hero for information.

By the climax, the director attempts to create an emotional ending, but it lacks connection and impact. The final fight drags on too long, and the loud background music reduces the overall excitement.

Mass Jathara Review and Verdict:

Bhanu Bhogavarapu's Mass Jathara had the potential to be a great crowd-pleaser. However, apart from a few hero elevation and action scenes, the writing feels weak, the screenplay is inconsistent, the comedy does not work, and the music fails to impress and make it a tiresome experience.
