Story:

The story follows Veerababu (Sangeeth Shobhan), an NRI who returns to his native village and soon gets caught in a centuries-old ritual linked to a demon and a ruined fort. A curse, ominous warning signs, and the looming threat of human sacrifice drive the central conflict.

Performances:

Sangeeth Shobhan is excellent in the lead role and carries the film with ease. Vennela Kishore and Getup Srinu provide solid entertainment with their comic timing, while Nayan Sarika and Tanikella Bharani perform well in their parts. Brahmaji, Ashish Vidyarthi, and the rest of the cast, however, do not get enough scope to showcase their talent.

What Works:

The episode featuring the hero arriving near the fort works effectively and sets the tone well. The pre-interval and interval portions are engaging and keep the audience invested. The second half stands out with several hilarious moments involving Vennela Kishore and Sangeeth Shobhan, with Getup Srinu adding to the fun. The idea of giving the monster a human angle in the climax is appreciable. While the background score and VFX are not exceptional, they blend well with the film’s overall narrative.

What Doesn’t Work:

Although the first half has a few good comic moments, it falls flat in places as the proceedings feel ordinary. Director Manasa Sharma could have made better use of characters like Brahmaji and Ashish Vidyarthi, which might have added more depth and intrigue to the backstory. Even though the emotional payoff in the climax works to a decent extent, the backstory feels rushed and underdeveloped.

Raakaasa Review and Verdict:

Manasa Sharma’s Raakaasa is an entertaining ride filled with several engaging and enjoyable moments. While the story itself may not feel entirely new, the way the film delivers entertainment, powered by the comic timing of Sangeeth Shobhan, Vennela Kishore, and Getup Srinu, works really well. The slight emotional touch also adds to the overall experience.
