Story:

Mohanlal returns once again as Georgekutty in Drishyam 3, where the character takes a new step in life by turning into a film producer. After escaping the murder case involving his daughter Anju through court orders, Georgekutty decides to produce a movie inspired by the incidents that happened in his life. As the film becomes a success, Georgekutty hopes to move on peacefully and arrange his daughter Anju’s marriage after she recovers from her mental trauma.

However, the wounds and enemies from Georgekutty’s past refuse to leave him alone. Several people affected by his actions begin plotting against him, leading to a fresh set of unknown challenges in his journey.

Performances:

Mohanlal once again proves to be the backbone of the film with a commanding performance and body language, though his character needed better writing. Meena performs well within the scope of her role, while Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil Siddique, Murali Gopy, and Kalabhavan Shajohn also deliver apt performances. The supporting cast also delivers decent performances throughout the film.

What Works:

The interval twist brings some intrigue into the film. The second delivers some impactful moments with drama, tension, emotional moments, and twists, working well in those sequences. The reverse game of Georgekutty near the climax is decent, though not great.

What Doesn't Work:

With the massive popularity of the Drishyam franchise, expectations surrounding Drishyam 3 were naturally very high. Unfortunately, director Jeethu Joseph does not completely satisfy that curiosity this time.

The first half takes too much time to establish the story, characters, and drama, which slows down the narrative considerably. The lack of freshness in several scenes and the slow pacing test the audience’s patience at times.

Interestingly, the film introduces several promising subplots that had the potential to bring out the intelligent side of the story even more. One such subplot involving the people affected by Georgekutty plotting against him starts on a strong note, but it is wrapped up before it can create a major impact on the proceedings. This becomes one of the film’s biggest missed opportunities. Additionally, the scenes towards the climax, where Georgekutty retaliates, feel somewhat clumsy.

Drishyam 3 Review and Verdict:

Overall, Drishyam 3 works better in parts rather than as a completely satisfying thriller. While the second half has several impactful moments and Mohanlal’s performance stands out, the slow first half and underdeveloped subplots prevent the film from reaching the brilliance of its predecessors.
