Story:
Murthy, a 50-year-old man portrayed by Ajay Ghosh, operates a music store in Vinukonda. While hosting an event, the presenter commends Murthy's talent in setting up music and proposes that he pursue a career as a DJ. Anjana, an actual DJ, visits Murthy's shop seeking repairs for her DJ console. Intrigued by the console, Murthy becomes enamored with it, prompting Anjana to teach him the necessary skills to become a DJ. Following a series of unexpected events, Anjana departs from the city, leading Murthy to decide to pursue his dream despite his family's objections. The question remains: Did Murthy achieve success and become a renowned DJ? This question and its answer form the essence of the film Music Shop Murthy.
Performances:
Ajay Ghosh portrays an older man aspiring to become a DJ effortlessly. His ability to deliver comedic timing and emotional depth captivates the audience. His character's subdued and subtle portrayal contrasts with his previous roles, providing a refreshing feel. Amani portrays the role of Ajay's wife with grace, gradually gaining significance as the story progresses. Chandini Chowdary delivers a decent performance in the film, leaving a lasting impression. Bhanu Chander, a veteran actor, makes a comeback in a pivotal role after a considerable hiatus but fails to make an impact due to his character's predictable and one-dimensional nature. Other actors did well within their scope.
What worked for the film:
Though the plot may be predictable, the idea of an older man taking on the role of a DJ is quite intriguing. The conversations are impactful, and the story's poignant moments are effectively portrayed, complemented by skillful cinematography that adds to the overall visual experience. The track between Murthy and Anjana is handled very elegantly without getting overboard. The Pre Climax and Climax Episodes give the required emotional impact, though it has a bit of a dramatic nature. Director Siva Paladugu must be appreciative of making the film without being preachy.
What did not work for the film:
Murthy's journey to Hyderabad and his efforts to become a DJ lack the necessary impact. More care should have been taken to portray Murthy's struggles effectively, which would inadvertently elevate his success. The second half suffers from the predictability factor emerging at crucial junctures.
Music Shop Murthy Review and Verdict:
The movie represents a genuine effort from the director and the team. The straightforward approach in most scenes adds to the film's appeal, showcasing a few heartwarming moments and touching on family emotions. However, the predictability and slight sluggishness in the second half detract from the film's overall impact.
