Abhi (Kireeti Reddy), a spirited college kid, dreams of making amazing memories and wants to break free from his dad, Kodandapani (V Ravichandran), who loves him a ton.
Abhi later undertakes an internship at a corporation, reporting directly to Vijay Soujanya (Genelia Deshmukh), who is on the verge of becoming the CEO. They start off on the wrong foot, and then Soujanya drops the bomb that Abhi's job is at risk. How does he turn things around? Did he recognize his father's love? The answers unfold in the rest of the film.
Performances:
Kireeti Reddy makes an effort to shine in his first role, and he nails some key moments in the second half. He handles both dance and fight scenes like a pro.
V. Ravichandran makes Abhi's father feel warm and relatable, but the writing for his character could definitely be stronger. Sreeleela received an unfavorable role and could only showcase her talent in the song 'Viral Vayyari' through her dance and charm.
Genelia Deshmukh's character is significant, but she lacks even one moment to display her acting talent as her role appears. Rao Ramesh, Harsha Chemudu, Satya, Sudharani, Achyut Rao, and others are okay.
What worked for the film:
Ravichandran, the veteran Kannada actor, is the only bright spot in the Junior movie, as he plays the hero's father.
The scenes he has in the beginning and after intermission work for the film. Kireeti adds a nice touch to a few scenes in the second half.
What did not work for the film:
The movie follows a pretty standard formula and throws in romance, action, laughs, and drama, but it all feels kind of old-fashioned and mundane.
Radhakrishna Reddy, the director, missed the mark on making the hero's and his father's conflict feel intense. Similarly, when the hero tackles a major mission that mixes his personal and work life, the needed excitement or intrigue just disappears.
Genelia Deshmukh plays a crucial part in the story, but the way the director deals with her conflict feels run-of-the-mill. The scenes between her and the hero lack impact, and the emotional climax does not hit hard either.
Also, it is strange that Sree Leela's character just disappears in the second half, except for a song.
Junior Review and Verdict:
Radhakrishna Reddy's Junior misses the mark since its narration appears stale and overly formulaic in most parts. While the second half offers some touching moments, it still turns out to be a tiring experience.
