Story:
The film takes place in Chitti Jaya Puram, a fictional village filled with quirky characters who cling to outdated customs rooted in ignorance and patriarchy. Apoorva (Keerthy Suresh) takes over as village head after her father's death in service.
She finds it hard to meet her power's expectations, and on top of that, Chinna, the graveyard caretaker, brings a serious issue to Apoorva.
The cemetery is running out of room, and she tries to find a solution. In the village, Bheemayya and Madhubabu, two powerful people, aim to undermine Apoorva due to their resistance to female leadership. How Apoorva confronts these patriarchs during a rising cultural issue is what forms the rest of the story.
Performances:
Suhas's Chinna is the heart and soul of 'Uppu Kappurambu.' His character and performance drive the story in this film. Keerthy Suresh's portrayal of Apoorva is a bit annoying at the start, but she grows on you in no time. Babu Mohan, Shatru, Talluri Rameshwari, Shiva Narayana, and others are apt and add value to the movie.
What worked for the film:
Ani IV Sasi's film 'Uppu Kappurambu' offers a unique plot with weird characters/backdrop while it cleverly addresses social issues. The movie shines a light on various social and political problems like misogyny, community divides, family-run politics, and patriarchy, mixing the fun parts alongside a slight dose of emotions.
The film finishes off with a feel-good and positive vibe and shares a message we definitely need in our society right now.
What did not work for the film:
The first few sequences of the movie drag on. The narration takes its time to settle and gathers some strength towards the midpoint. A few sequences look repetitive/over the board, and apart from four main characters, others do not get much impact in the proceedings of the film. For example, though the character of Chinna's mother, played by Talluri Rameshwari is crucial for the film, missed the needed effect.
Uppu Kappurambu Review and Verdict:
Ani IV Sasi's Uppu KappuRambu has an interesting and offbeat idea for the film. While it begins on a shaky note and has its ups and downs, this rural comedy delivers some genuine laughs and wraps up nicely, making it good for a one-time watch.
