Dude Movie gets a superb release in Telugu States but K-Ramp is not able to have the same in Tamil Nadu, Says Kiran Abbavaram in his interview with Baradwaj Rangan

Actor Kiran Abbavaram has sparked an online debate with his recent comments about the challenges faced by Telugu actors in Tamil Nadu. He said that his upcoming film, K-Ramp, is not getting screens in Tamil Nadu, but the Tamil-dubbed film of Pradeep Ranganathan, Dude, will have a smooth release in the Telugu states.

Speaking about his career’s biggest hit, KA (2024), he revealed that distributors in Tamil Nadu openly told him, “We can’t give screens,” making it difficult for his movie to release there.

He pointed out that while young Tamil actors like Pradeep Ranganathan are getting good theater access in Telugu states, the same support isn’t shown to Telugu actors in Tamil Nadu. “Ten Tamil actors have a strong market in Telugu,” Kiran said, “but how many of our young Telugu actors have a prominent market in Tamil? When we love them, shouldn’t we expect the same love from them?”

His remarks have gone viral, sparking a broader debate on regional support, market access, and mutual respect between film industries.

Telugu moviegoers are known for being open and welcoming to films from other languages like Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi. They often watch and enjoy good content regardless of where it comes from, which is why many Tamil and Malayalam films do well in Telugu states.

However, the same response is not always seen from Tamil or Malayalam audiences toward Telugu films, but yes, there are a few big Pan-India films from Telugu cinema that have made good numbers in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, like the Baahubali series, RRR, Kalki 2898 AD, and Pushpa 2.

There is a strong local preference in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, where audiences are deeply connected to their own stars and storytelling styles. Also, Telugu films may not get enough promotion in the other states, and the makers need to plan innovative techniques to get noticed among other languages regarding the promotional content of the films.
