The story picks up right after the first film. With Ashish (Ajay Devgn) finally convincing his family about his relationship with Ayesha (Rakul Preet Singh), it is now her turn to introduce him to her own family. Her family includes her father, Rakesh (R. Madhavan), mother Anju (Gautami Kapoor), brother Rohan (Tarun Gahlot), and sister-in-law Kittu (Ishita Dutta), who is expecting a baby. This modern, liberal family in Chandigarh is excited about Kittu’s upcoming delivery. The rest of the film explores how they react when Ayesha brings Ashish home, and what unfolds afterward.
Performances:
Ajay Devgn plays his role with an easygoing and self-aware charm. He handles the age-related jokes well, using them to add humor while staying grounded. Even when he steps back to let others shine, he still manages to make an impact. Rakul Preet Singh brings confidence and spark to her performance, creating a nice balance with Devgn’s subtle style.
R. Madhavan is perfectly cast as Ayesha’s father. His calm and natural acting adds warmth to the film, and his scenes with Devgn give emotional weight to the otherwise light story. Gautami Kapoor is graceful as a supportive mother. Ishita Dutta adds liveliness in a few scenes. Meezaan Jafri does a decent job, but Javed Jafferi completely stands out as Ashish’s therapist and friend, delivering some of the film’s best laughs.
What Works:
Director Anshul Sharma keeps the first half light and entertaining, focusing on situational comedy and family dynamics instead of preaching. It moves smoothly, with several engaging moments. The last thirty minutes of the film, where Rakul shines in scenes involving her boyfriend and father, are especially enjoyable.
What doesn't work:
In the middle of the second half, DDPD2 loses its focus for a while, mixing comedy, emotion, and social messages in a way that feels uneven. Thankfully, it eventually finds its rhythm again.
De De Pyaar De 2 Review and Verdict:
Anshul Sharma’s De De Pyaar De 2 delivers a good mix of comedy, romance, craziness, and emotions. The first half keeps you entertained with many engaging scenes. Although the second half loses its tone for a while, it gets back on track and ends on a fun and satisfying note.
