The most-awaited event for Globetrotter (official title: Varanasi), the first-ever film bringing together Mahesh Babu and Rajamouli, was held on the night of November 15th at Ramoji Film City.
During the event, the team released a concept trailer and officially announced the title Varanasi. Rajamouli revealed that the team shot an important Ramayana sequence for the film, and he felt goosebumps when he saw Mahesh Babu as Lord Rama during the photoshoot.
Releasing such a grand video is a powerful way to showcase the film’s scale. It hints at a once-in-a-lifetime cinematic experience, scheduled to arrive in 2027.
Even a single visual of Lord Sriram from the Treta Yuga gives goosebumps to the audience. Keeravani’s background score is gripping, and the period visuals suggest that the film will present a scale and visual experience never seen before.
The film features various worlds and timelines:
Varanasi (512 CE)
Asteroid Shambhavi (2027 CE)
Antarctica
Africa
Ugrabhatthi Cave
Lanka Nagaram (Treta Yuga)
Vaaranasi and Manikarnika Ghat
Varanasi also includes a time-travel concept. The makers added the caption Timetrotter, along with the earlier tagline Globetrotter. Mahesh Babu’s appearance at the end of the concept trailer is a breathtaking visual, beyond imagination.
So far, the team has completed 60 days of shooting, including the recently filmed Lord Rama sequence. Rajamouli mentioned that every day on set has been a challenge.
Talking about the project, Mahesh Babu said this is his dream film and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. “I’ve given my best to make Varanasi a film that will make everyone proud, especially my director Rajamouli,” he said.
Overall, Globetrotter is set to create a new chapter in Indian cinema, as it is being made in a premium large-scale format. The entire film will be showcased in full-screen IMAX.
The film, starring Superstar Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, is set for a Summer 2027 release.
