Story:

Param, played by Siddharth Malhotra, gets convinced by an inventor to put his money into a dating app. A complete match for Param, the Delhi resident, turns up in a town next to Alappuzha in Kerala.

Sundari, played by Janhvi Kapoor, manages a homestay. Param shows up with his buddy Juggy (Manjot Singh). At the start, Sundari comes off as pretty cold, but they become good friends later on. The remainder of the film focuses on how Param and Sundari's love develops and where it leads them.

Performances:

Siddharth Malhotra looks dashing, but he could not do much with his performance, as the character has nothing remarkable. Janhvi Kapoor delivers some good moments with her energy, but even her character is also handled very poorly. Mainly, Sidharth and Janhvi's pairing appears as a total mismatch with zero chemistry. Sanjay Kapoor has a couple of good laughable moments in the latter half, while Manjot Singh, Tanvi Ram, Renji Panicker, and others did not have much to do.

What worked for the film:

Sachin-Jigar's music is the first thing to mention as positive for this film. Right from the first scene, every song and background score helps the movie as much as they can to get some kind of feel in the love story of the lead pair. The visuals also look good with capturing the beautiful locales of Kerala. The initial moments between the lead pair work alright. A few comedy scenes in the second half provide good relief. The pre-climax episode offers little emotional impact.

What did not work for the film:

Director Tushar Jalota might have found the line of a love story that breaks regional and cultural boundaries awesome. But the idea falls flat on screen. That film covers everything from toddy and sadya to elephants and the traditional boat race, checking off every Malayali stereotype without really adding anything new to the story.

The audience does not feel anything about Param and Sundari's relationship: they meet, fall in love, have a small phase of breakup, and eventually unite at the end. But all these proceedings have zero impact, as they stay at the surface for most of the time. The hero's friend, a Sikh guy who usually can't stand Malayalis, suddenly falls head over heels for a local girl, and the director never bothers to show what made him change. The third angle in this love story is like a flimsy piece of cardboard that you just know when and where it will end.

Param Sundari Review and Verdict:

In Param Sundari, Tushar Jalota tries to recreate the magic of classic Bollywood love stories, but it falls short and only shines in a couple of spots. The music and visuals fit the film nicely, but the emotions just do not hit the mark.
