Story:

Shankar (Dhanush), an Air Force pilot, is grounded for disobedience and told to clear his record before returning to duty. Enter Mukti (Kriti Sanon), a psychologist who shares a complicated past with Shankar from their college days. The film explores how their romance and conflicts from the past affect their present lives, and whether they can overcome personal issues to resolve Shankar’s professional struggles.

Performances:

Dhanush delivers a powerful performance as Shankar, portraying aggression, self-destruction, and vulnerability with depth. He dominates several key scenes and adds weight to the narrative. Kriti Sanon makes a strong impact, ensuring her character is layered and not one-dimensional. Priyanshu Painyuli is decent as Shankar’s friend, while Prakash Raj shines in an emotional sequence in the second half. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub impresses in a brief cameo.

What Works:

Director Anand L. Rai reunites with Dhanush after Raanjhanaa (2013) and Atrangi Re (2021). Fans considered Tere Ishk Mein to be connected to the Raanjhanaa universe, and Rai once again tells an intense love story with self-destructive characters.

The first half begins well, with college scenes that feel familiar but are lifted by emotional moments and well-shot songs. The interval brings a strong twist. The second half intensifies with dramatic sequences, including Shankar destroying Mukti’s house and the tragic fallout. The pre-climax conversations between the leads are impactful, and though the climax feels slightly rushed, it still delivers the impact.

What Doesn't Work:

The film struggles with character decisions that often feel forced. Mukti’s behavior in certain second-half scenes appears contrived, weakening the emotional flow. More emphasis on Shankar’s pain and reasons for his destructive choices could have strengthened the narrative. Additionally, while Shankar is described as one of the best Air Force pilots, the war backdrop and scenes with his colleagues are underdeveloped and only passable.

Tere IshK Mein Review And Verdict:

Anand L Rai’s Tere Ishk Mein is a fairly engaging film, even though it has its own mix of strengths and weaknesses. The movie carries a constant feeling of yearning and has a chaotic, intense tone, which goes overboard at times. However, Dhanush and Kriti Sanon give strong performances, and the important emotional moments hold the film together.
