Shah Rukh Khan, a name that needs no introduction. We still will take the pride in naming the man he is, an actor, a producer who lovingly goes by different names in the biggest industry of Indian cinema, Bollywood, as “Baadshah” and “King Khan”.
The actor who steps into his 58th year today has had a dream of a journey starting with few small screen roles, to debuting in 1992, to playing negative shades in films like Baazigar, Darr, etc. and while he made a name and following by then itself, what transpired in the late 90s and early 2000s made him all that he is now.
His romantic roles in films like Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Dil to Pagal Hai, Kuck Kuch Hota Hai, Mohabbatein and Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham made him a heartthrob not just for the female audience but also in the family audience making him the biggest star Bollywood has seen until then.
His box office range then could become a case study as to understand the rise of a star. To quote the sheer magnificence of his box office range, a few films mentioned above have a gross in overseas which even to date would feature in the top 25. Such was the pull the star hero commanded at the box office.
While being the “Raj” for women was his strong forte, the actor did not limit himself to only those roles and found critical acclaim for his performances in movies like Devdas, Chak De India and Swades, ringing the box office toll along yet again.
Chennai Express which followed later turned out to be a huge blockbuster and the highest grossing film then, just emphasizing the pull of the hero.
To say that he is not just an on-screen hero would be an understatement as his philanthropic efforts pan across being the face of few government initiatives lie Pulse Polio, being the first global ambassador for WSSCC, association with UNICEF for child nutrition, being a member in Make-A-Wish foundation, and much more.
The hero, who also has a keen interest in business, owns one of the most loved franchises of the IPL, Kolkatta Knight Riders and also spreads his wings across a variety of businesses, including film making under his own banner Red Chillies Entertainment. He also produced a few of his own movies under the banner.
His last hit however came from his own banner in the form of Happy New Year, which should be said kind of a mediocre film but the actor still managed to set the cash registers ringing.
The films which followed however did not manage to impress the audience and the box office performance of few movies has been dismal.
His counterparts in Salman Khan and Amir khan during the same time had good releases which managed to push them forward in the game and at one point, SRK did not seem to be in the competition, thus raising the question whether this man, whose journey has been nothing but a myth has now become a legend?
But you already know the answer, don’t you? A man with such huge fan following doesn’t need a streak again to be back in form. One look at his loved home, Mannat, during his birthdays or otherwise just stands as a subtle personification to the following he has and the love he is bestowed upon by the millions and millions of his fans. One good movie and Indian cinema will again see the king taking the reigns back on the box office, just to prove who the real “Baadshah” of Bollywood is.
His next release, titled Pathaan, is releasing after a long break of 4 years and the actor along with his fans pinned all their hopes on this action entertainer. The teaser of Pathaan looks like it is going to live upto the expectations.
We wish the hero a very happy birthday, a super successful year ahead and hope he does a Phoenix with Pathaan and gets back to his best of forms, continuing the myth and saving the legend for later.
