Mowgli, played by Roshan Kanakala, is an orphan who dreams of becoming a police officer. One day, a film crew arrives in his village for a shoot, and Mowgli gets a small opportunity to work as a dupe. During this time, he meets Jasmine (Sakshi Mhadolkar), a girl who cannot speak or hear. The two slowly grow close and fall in love. Meanwhile, the film’s producer becomes interested in Jasmine, and Mowgli steps in to protect her. Just when the couple believes their troubles are over, a ruthless cop named Christopher Nolan (Bandi Saroj Kumar) begins to chase Jasmine. The story mainly focuses on how Mowgli fights back and tries to save the woman he loves.
Performances:
Roshan Kanakala puts in sincere effort and looks convincing in the action scenes. He is also fairly effective in a few emotional moments. Sakshi Mhadolkar does a convincing job as a deaf and mute girl, though the role does not give her much scope to showcase her acting skills. Bandi Saroj Kumar looks menacing as the antagonist and manages to make a few scenes impactful, but weak writing limits his character. Harsha Chemudu does well as the hero’s friend and brings some relief.
What Works:
The villain’s introduction scene is strong and sets a good tone initially. Harsha Chemudu makes a few comedy scenes work well, and also delivers some key emotional dialogues effectively. The post-interval portion is decent.
What Doesn't Work:
The film lacks freshness and fails to offer anything engaging, except for a small twist. Most of the scenes feel routine and stretched. The emotional connection is completely missing, as the love and pain between the lead pair never feel convincing. Several scenes, including the climax, are dragged unnecessarily. The villain, who starts strong, gradually loses his impact. Moreover, many scenes rely on disturbing elements such as harassment and character shaming of the heroine, which seem forced and end up feeling unpleasant rather than emotional.
Mowgli Review and Verdict:
Sandeep Raj's Mowgli is just another tired love story that seems far too predictable. While the intention behind the film is clear, the execution falls far short of delivering a decent result. Bandi Saroj dominates the screen in a few scenes, and some moments do work, but beyond that, the film becomes a painfully dragged-out experience.
