Story:
Om Shanti Shanti Shantihi tells the story of Prashanti (Eesha Rebba), a woman with simple dreams who faces challenges from childhood. Her family never supports her wishes, and when she hopes for a better life after marriage, she instead faces domination and abuse from her husband. The film portrays her journey to fight for self-respect.
Performances:
Tharun Bhascker is a perfect choice for the role of Omkar Naidu, delivering a controlled yet effective performance with his look and body language. Eesha Rebba shines with a powerful portrayal, especially in crucial emotional scenes. Brahmaji adds humor and steals the spotlight in several moments. The supporting cast fits their roles well and contributes to the narrative.
What Works:
Directed by A. R. Sajeev, the film tackles the theme of gender inequality. From the opening scene, the effort to highlight this issue is clear, and the contrast between the two lead characters’ worlds is well established. The husband-wife interactions are impactful, gradually building the emotional weight of the story. Some dialogues are cleverly written, adding humor. The fight sequence in the second half is handled well, and the settlement scene involving both families is entertaining, with Brahmaji standing out.
What Doesn’t Work:
Despite a strong start, the film loses momentum in the second half. Prashanti’s fightback lacks the required intensity, and the emotional scenes feel too basic. The climax, centered around a courtroom sequence, fails to deliver the powerful impact the story needed.
Om Shanti Shanti Shantihi Review and Verdict:
A. R. Sajeev’s Om Shanti Shanti Shantihi attempts to be a faithful remake. The performances of Tharun Bhascker and Eesha Rebba, along with several comedy scenes, work well. But the film fails to maintain the momentum after the midpoint and ends on an ordinary note.
