Anand (Atharvaa) and Divya (Nimisha Sajayan) both have their own issues, but they jump into an arranged marriage and end up living a happy, normal life together. Things go smoothly for the couple and they expect their first little one. However, when Divya says that the baby she got is not really theirs, Anand chases a web of connections that he cannot even understand.
Performances:
Atharvaa does a fantastic job, expressing deep emotions perfectly during the crucial parts. Nimisha Sajayan delivers a spot-on performance, capturing the character's vulnerability without going too far.
Chetan is good as the hero's father but his character is left in the middle. Ramesh Thilak, who plays the hero's buddy, kinda gets pushed to the side after a while and does not get much chance to shine. Balaji Sakthivel does a great job as the cop who supports the hero. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub is okay.
What worked for the Film:
DNA vibes in the thriller space, starting off romantic and then ramping up the tension with a cleverly crafted sequence of events that leads to a gripping drama. Nelson creates two characters with strange backgrounds.
Anand, who went through a tough breakup and ended up living like a lazy drinker, has to get his act together and marry Divya, a young woman dealing with borderline personality disorder. Watching this couple come closely and craft an amazing life makes the film shine.
The way the film shifts into thriller mode is slick, especially that part where the hero finds a baby during his search for his son and isn't sure if it's his. Despite a few hiccups, the tension in the script stays intact.
What did not work for the Film:
It would have been better if Nelson had concentrated on the mindsets of the main characters given their problematic past instead of those minor hiccups. The film's reliance on commercial elements and convenient parts in a few places lessens the intensity.
Likewise, it feels like the plot rushes through things when everything comes undone at the end.
DNA Review and Verdict:
Nelson Venkatesan's DNA is a cleverly crafted thriller that also packs an emotional punch. The film has its rough spots such as pacing issues and missing out on exploring lead characters, but it engages when it addresses the core issue
