A group of visitors arrives at Kuriachan's large and intimidating estate, Kattukkunnu, seeking revenge and trying to find the dog breeder who went missing five years ago. His wife, Mlatthi Chedathi, refuses to answer their questions. They wonder if he is still alive, and if so, where he might be.
Performances:
Saurabh Sachdeva performs strongly as the Kerala planter and dog breeder, showing powerful body language in many scenes. Sandeep Pradeep is excellent as Peyoos, bringing depth to the character. Biana Momin stands out as a woman with a painful past. Vineeth, Narain, Binu Pappu, Ashokan and others are alright.
What Works:
After Kishkindha Kaandam, director Dinjith Ayyathan returns with an engaging slow-burn thriller that includes a smart twist. The opening scenes build a solid foundation and skillfully reveal the mysteries surrounding Kuriachan and Chedathi. The dog sequences are handled brilliantly, and the last twenty minutes create intense suspense.
Bahul Ramesh’s cinematography is impressive, beautifully capturing the landscape and showcasing the strength and danger of the dogs during key moments.
What Doesn't Work:
The film introduces several characters determined to either kill Kuriachan or punish him for his crimes. It is clear that Kuriachan has a violent history and has dealt with many gangs in the past. Although many talk about his cruelty, his exact crimes remain unclear. The final twist is meaningful to the story, but it does not come as a major surprise.
Eko Review and Verdict:
Dinjith Ayyathan delivers a compelling mystery thriller with Eko, showcasing impressive performances from the entire cast alongside sound design and visuals that align beautifully with the film's atmosphere. This movie takes its time to develop, leading to moments where the tempo feels slow. While some might see the climax twist coming, it still manages to enthrall the audience as a whole.
