Story:
Jayabharathi (Darshana Rajendran) is brought up in a so-called idealistic family. Where her parents love and take a lot of care of her, but never allow her to follow her likes nor let her make decisions from a study course to her marriage. However, her life turns out to be more terrible as she gets married to Rajesh (Basil Joseph), a poultry farm owner. Rajesh is a stereotypical Indian husband with a patriarchal mindset. One day, he slaps his wife when she doesn’t cook his routine breakfast. His violent attitude becomes a norm after that. What does Jaya do in retaliation? And how does Rajesh react to it form the rest of the story.
Analysis:
Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey attempts to narrate a serious theme in a comical tone. Every character in the movie have nicely setup arcs, .knowingly, or unknowingly, they make an impact in the proceedings between the lead pair. It is one such film that makes you laugh out loud and think about the deep-rooted patriarchal mindset in the society at the same time.
Both Darshana Rajendran and Basil Joseph delivered excellent performances in the film. Darshana proves again such a terrific performer she is. Most of the scenes she doesn't have the dialogues but still, she was able to convey the impact. Basil Joseph suited well for the funny and chauvinistic role. We laugh at him many times and want to slap him hard at times, such natural was his performance. The supporting cast also did its job well like Sudheer Paravoor and Aju Varghese.
Music director Ankit Menon has given a good background score and songs that he'll with the story well. Bablu Aju’s cinematography was nice. The dialogues were perfect.
Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey deals with a sensitive topic with mix of fun. Impactful performances, intriguing story and entertaining narration with some heavily effective emotional moments make it work. Normally, mixing serious themes with fun doesn't work, but director Vipin Das has made the formula work with this movie. The climax was perfectly set up just when we think that the film is going to end as a regular one, it doesn't go the way and ends with a most satisfactory feel.
Pros:
Engaging Story
Performances
Comedy
Climax
Cons:
A few odd-looking scenes
Final Note:
Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey is a well-made film which tries to tell an important message in an entertaining way. Natural performances and narration make it a worth watch.
